You will hear this countless times-
It is better to have good sound and a bad picture than a good picture and bad sound. Why? Well if you can't hear it you will get pissed real quick and stop watching. If you have good audio and a bad picture at least you have "radio".
Where did i get my sound?
I paid for it! If you are going to invest on ONE thing, make it your sound effects. Saving Private Ryan is an amazing film without question, but turn off the sound in the first half hour.... There are some shots where you see dirt hit.......... dirt hit.................. dirt hit. And thats it! Sound!!!
READ and LISTEN!
When your looking at CD sets READ the track listing and listen to demos, then compare to other sets!!!
(note- most demos are low quality so you do not steal from the demo)
Places to buy from-
There are a ton of sound effects places out there, here are a few. And once you find a set you want, price search!
I bought the "Guns" series and Impact Effects 1-3 from Soundideas.com. Check their website month or get on their email list to see their monthly "Blue Plate Specials", they were selling "Guns" for half off!
Then there is sounddogs.com where you can buy sounds one at a time. They also sell sets. Also studios such as Sony sell sound effects libraries, neat! This place was a life saver when I needed that one off sound effect.
Places to find sound-
Search for particular sounds like MG42 or AK47, and search for game sounds like from Medal of Honor or Call of Duty!
